Fiona has had an unusual interest in the way the body, functions, develops and changes with time, age, environment and work load. She has always been curious; at the age 4 she asked her mum “how does a seed know to grow into a gum tree and not a magpie?”
At seven she started a stall in the local market giving 10 minute massages. She didn’t need pocket money from her Parents that year!
Her interest in animals developed about the same time; knowing when something was not quite right with dogs, cats, chooks, horses, and wildlife. She had the knack of knowing when to let them be, or when they needed help. Fiona has spent several years working with animals as a vet nurse, then specialising in animal physiotherapy where she managed individualised rehabilitation with all types of animals, post-surgery and with orthopaedic injuries. It was during this time she learnt to understand and fully trust her hands, because her patients could not speak for what they needed.
Fiona is now a qualified remedial massage therapist who enjoys combining working in both a clinical and instinctive manner. She uses her understanding of human anatomy and natural feel for the function of the body, to ascertain and alleviate issues within the body.
Finishing her remedial massage has only whet her interest in learning more, so she has continued her studies to become a Myotherapist. She will be qualified at the end of June 2018. But that won’t be where her learning ends!
Until she qualifies she has many modality’s and techniques to offer, she practices: relaxation, sports massage, deep tissue, remedial massage, manual lymphatic drainage, myofascial cupping, pregnancy massage, myofascial tension technique, and also encourages and supports use of corrective exercises and stretches to help you continue your progress at home.
Fiona brings her academic understanding and the learning from her study, together with her holistic approach, to Osteopathic Sense. She is sensitive and thorough in her approach and aims to help not only in treating your musculoskeletal complaints via her range of massage techniques, but also assist in any way she can, to compliment and assist in your overall health and well-being.
